    Back in print! Superchunk has released Cup of Sand, their 2003 singles and rarities compilation on vinyl for this first time. The original CD packaging has been expanded for this edition to showcase Laura Ballance’s original paintings, and features expanded conversations with Mac, Jon, Jim and Laura about every track included—the ones they remember recording, anyway. The notes have been expanded to comprise the three additional songs from out-of-print compilations which have been added to this remastered reissue.

With Bells On – 1997, Echo Park, with John Plymale. B-side of the Watery Hands single.

Jon: One of only two songs I’ve ever written the music for in this band (the other was “Cursed Mirror”). The closest we ever came to full-on jangle. I believe “European Medicine” beat this out for inclusion on Indoor Living. And yes, I’ve held a grudge ever since, thank you very much.

Jim: The music here was instigated by Jon. I hope we didn’t screw it up too badly.

Mac: For some reason, the working title was “the Loominator.” I think Jon wrote the main riff for this one, I let it down with a subpar lyric & vocal line that gets a bit repetitive. Electric 12-strings always help in a pinch, though.
