about

The Hot Break – 2001, Zero Return, with Brian Paulson. Appears on the Art Class CD5.

Jon: This must have been the peppiest number we recorded for Here’s to Shutting Up. I finally found a snare drum that I really liked and used it all over this record. The fact that I stole it only makes me like it more.

Jim: We came up with this music on the first day of writing Here’s to Shutting Up. I think I’m the only one in the band who likes it.

Mac: Hopping little new wave number, rocking but slight somehow. Like the other HTSU b-sides, tracked at Zero Return but then we spent so much time mucking around with string arrangements for the album we had to finish all these (adding vocals, keyboards, etc.) back at Paulson’s home studio, where we mixed the album.

Laura: Having never been fully satisfied with my contribution to this song, I was quite relieved to have it axed from the album.
