about

Does Your Hometown Care? – 1996, Overdub Lane, with John Plymale. Appears on the Suburbia Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Jon: Remember back in the ’90s when everyone was doing songs for soundtracks? We were not immune to this semi-lucrative venture either. I mean, what band wouldn’t want to hear a four-second vocal-less snippet of one of its songs coming from a faraway transistor radio while Alan Arkin gets out of a cab?

Mac: Recorded with John Plymale for the Suburbia soundtrack; never saw the movie, but I used the script for the basis of the lyrics, though being in a band in a small town provides similar material. Our best Versus rip-off ever.

Laura: I have never seen any of the movies that our songs have been associated with. I know I should, but, you know, my time is at a premium. We originally recorded “Green Flowers, Blue Fish” for a sci-fi Keanu Reeves vehicle, Johnny Mnemonic, but they decided they were going to have a score rather than songs from bands. I meant to see that one but I never got around to it. I bet he’s cute in it.
