about

Dance Lessons – 1993, Pachyderm, with Brian Paulson. Appears on the Rows of Teeth compilation.

Jon: It’s no secret that I feel we recorded too many songs for our Foolish album. We had 3 days to record 16 songs and this peppy little number was one of them. The fact that the snare drum I used on this session belonged previously to the drummer from Hootie and The Blowfish is exciting to you.

Jim: Written in the dank basement of Jon’s rented house out in Calvander, NC. Recorded in rural Minnesota during a harsh winter. It’s not surprising that this number never got tamed enough for a live performance.

Mac: Recorded at the Foolish sessions. One of those many “Gee, we must have been in a rush if THAT was the best vocal take we could come up with” moments, but the bridge is rather uplifting.

Laura: The song has potential, but could have used more work. The bridge is definitely the best part. Did I tell you that there was an indoor pool at that studio? I never got to use it, but I thought it was posh.
