    Back in print! Superchunk has released Cup of Sand, their 2003 singles and rarities compilation on vinyl for this first time. The original CD packaging has been expanded for this edition to showcase Laura Ballance’s original paintings, and features expanded conversations with Mac, Jon, Jim and Laura about every track included—the ones they remember recording, anyway. The notes have been expanded to comprise the three additional songs from out-of-print compilations which have been added to this remastered reissue.

Jon: An outtake from Anodyne. Just kidding. I think I actually prefer this to the version on Come Pick Me Up.

Mac: We were just going to record a straight acoustic version of this song for the b-side but in the studio (we literally had the headphones on already) someone suggested this laid-back gait and it worked out nicely I think. Faked it on the banjo. My favorite acoustic version of any of our songs.

Laura: I always feel strange about doing “acoustic” versions of songs. The boys are playing actual acoustic instruments and here I am with my electric bass. I need to learn how to play the upright. But then I would have to carry it around just in case, so scratch that.
