I love Lovecraft in Brooklyn, and this version captures the energy of the Mountain Goats in concert as well as any recording I've heard. My absolute favorite, but the live version of See America Right is a close second. Bangers, the both of 'em.

Despite following tMG since 1996, the full impact of this devastating album was delayed for me - but when it did hit its power knocked me over. Dozens of listens later and I’m still uncovering nuances I’d missed, noticing sumptuous (dare I say!) turns of phrase, and finding excuses to play it yet again - the dishes, a walk - so that I can marinate in the big questions it asks, the small comforts it offers, and the redemption it promises to those who listen closely. Stunning across the board.

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!!
